    Senior Management

We would like to thank our senior management for all their work and effort over the past two years. Vincent Gavin, Aidan Barrett, Niall McHugh and Brian Galvin have put in untold hours over the last few years for the betterment of Swinford GAA and they have decided that they will not be seeking re-appointment for next season. As is a sign of great men they will still be remaining involved with the club.
There has not been a day over the last few years that these men have not been thinking of the club and how to improve matters on and off the field of play. Their contribution to the club has been immense and on behalf of the executive of the club and the club itself I would like to express our sincere thanks to them for all their work.

    Under 13 Division 3 Final

    DSC_8813

Our young lads put in a very good display on Monday 19th in the Under 13 county final against a very good Kiltimagh team. We lost a few players to injury before the game but a very entertaining first half saw the two teams level at 1-6 apiece. Unfortunately we picked up more injuries at the beginning of the second half and Kiltimagh then took complete control and won on by 6-15 to 1-9. Full credit to all the players and management who have made great strides through the year.

      Senior League Division 1C

In the last round of league games, the end probable was the right one as we had our only draw of the year on a score of Swinford 3-8 Achill 2-11. Midway through the first half we were two goals behind, a point down at half time and level at the end. Roll on 2016. Swinford scorers: James Devaney 2-2, Tom Horkan 1-0, Kevin McDonagh Liam Moran 0-2 each, Kevin McShea 0-1, Johnny Burke 0-1 This game marks the end of the season with a mid table finsih. Injuries and emigration cost us key players during the year but full credit goes to the outgoing management team for all their work and effort and to all the players who donned the jersey throughout the season.

    Under 15 League

We had a great win in the semi final of Division 3 against Erris St.Pats by 8-17 to 1-1. We now play Davitts in the final on a date and venue to be scheduled.

    Senior League Division 1E

A tight game in which the lead changed hands a number of times ended with a two point win for the visiting team on a score of Swinford 2-11 Ballycroy 3-10. Swinford scorers: James Devaney 1-1, Andy Lenehan 1-0, Kevin McDonagh 0-3, Paul McDonagh 0-2, Gerry Callaghan, Aidan McLoughlin, Fergal Loftus, Mark McNicholas, James Lavin 0-1 The season has now ended with a mid table finish in the league and a position in the 2016 Junior Championship. Thanks to the management team of Tommy Feeney and Michael Lenehan and to all the players who played during the year.

    Senior League Division 1C

A disappointing evening at Robert McCallion Memorial Park in our penultimate league game of the year. We were beaten by 1-14 to 4-14 by Mayo Gaels. With 7 minutes to go there was only two points between the teams after we had fought very hard to get back into the game but that was the end for us as Mayo Gaels scored 2 goals and a point to win by 9. Swinford scorers: Liam Moran 0-6, Kevin McShea 1-1, Jack McDonnell 0-4, Kevin McDonagh, James Devaney, Michael Walsh 0-1 each. Match report at swinfordgaa.ie

East Mayo Under 16 B Final

In a very one sided game we won the East Mayo B trophy on a scoreline of 8-16 to 0-7. Well done to all the lads who put in a great effort throughout the year and to the management team under John Dunne.

    Senior League Division 1E

The game petered out for an easy win for the visitors Kilfian but not before we put it up to with a huge effort in the second half. Kilfian led by 2-3 to 0-4 at half time with their second goal very disputed. It appeared for all the world to see as if the ball never crossed the line. We fought back to within three points but in the last ten minutes Kilfain outscored us 1-5 to 0-1 to win on a full time score of Swinford 0-8 Kilfian 3-9.Match report at swinfordgaa.ie

  • Swinford v Kilfian

    Swinford v Kilfian

Though Kilfian may have won on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-8, the game will be remembered for a shocking decision to award a second goal to the away team in the first half.

Many of the Swinford team were playing their second game in less then 24 hours and we started the game with only a squad of 15 men the intensity of the game proved in the last ten minutes as many of our men had nothing left to give.

Ryan Convey got the game off to a good start with a point with the first attack but the visitors came down the other end and left Sean Kavanagh with no chance as a bullet of a ball was kicked into the top corner. Liam Moran then continued where he left off last night with a fine point.

From there Kilfian kicked 7 wides on the trot before they got the next two points to leave the goal between the teams. Liam Moran continued his fine form with another point before Kilfian kicked a ball into the Swinford area that was hacked towards the goal but kicked clear by Sean Kavanagh only for the umpire to raise the green flag. It clearly looked as if the ball was no where near the goal line but despite protests the goal stood. Liam Moran got one back but Kilfian got another point to leave things at the break Swinford 0-4 Kilfian 2-3.

Shane Julian who had come to watch the game was called in from the stand to start the second half. We then proved it be equally as wasteful as Kilfian with a number of wides before Kilfian got the first score of the half.  Liam Moran puuled one back with a pointed free and then great pressure by our forwards caused mayhem in the Kilfian defence and Shane Julian and Sean Brady capitalised with a point each.

Unfortunately that was as close as we could get and Kilfian scored 1-5 to our 0-1 from Kevin McDonagh in the last ten minutes. The last score was to be a Kilfian goal deep into injury time to finish Swinford 0-8 Kilfian 3-9.

Swinford: Sean Kavanagh, Alan McLoughlin, Sean Brady, Mark McNicholas, Aiden McLoughlin, Kevin Barry, Andy Lenehan, Ryan Convey, Michael Walsh, Liam Moran, Kevin McDonagh, Joshua Smith, Robert Quinn, Caoimghin McLoughlin, Anthony Friel. Subs Shane Julian.

Scorers: Liam Moran 0-4, Ryan Convey, Shane Julian, Sean Brady, Kevin McDonagh 0-1
