    Swinford GAA travel to Birmingham

Swinford GAA traveled to Birmingham on the weekend of June 8th to participate in the Coley Folan Memorial tournament run by Sean McDermotts GAA club.

This was a fantastic experience for our young players and for a our club in general. Accompanied by their coaches, parents and club representatives the players were a credit to their club and town. On the pitch they won their matches and the tournament, off the pitch they charmed their hosts! The future is looking bright.

We were hugely impressed by the Birmingham Irish community that the Coley Folan Memorial Day serves to highlight. It was a great reminder that the GAA is all about bringing communities together. We hope to further build the ties with these Birmingham clubs. It was great to play against a team led by Tommy Lynskey, a Swinford GAA stalwart who is currently driving the GAA forward in Birmingham.

The club wants to thank all the players, coaches and parents that traveled to Birmingham for the weekend. This was the first time an underage team has traveled abroad from our club. And, thanks to the efforts of all the people involved, it will definitely not be the last.
