  • Louisburgh v Swinford

A game that started so well and promised as much at half time concluded with a second half that left a lot to be looked at over the next few weeks.

A yellow weather warning from the Met office saw Reek Sunday called off but still many thousands climbing the holy mountain as we took the road West to Louisburgh.

The pitch was heavy with the rain fall which came down as the game started but we got off to a great start with a goal from James Devaney in the first minute which was quickly followed by a point from Johnny Burke.

Louisburgh replied with two points before Liam Moran got a point to leaveus leading by 0-2 to 1-2 after seven minutes. Over the next ten minutes Louisburgh scored three points including two frees to level the game.

Jack McDonnell then scored two points one from a free and the other a lovely kick from out on the left sideline from a tight angle to put us two ahead. A strong run down the middle from Eoin Gallagher led to a second goal from James Devaney with a tap in the square.

Before half time a Louisburgh point separated frees from Liam Moran and Jack McDonnell to leave us leading by 0-6 to 2-6 at the break.

They talk of games of two haves and this was certainly one of those as Louisburgh took complete control after the break and within eleven minutes the game was level as Louisburgh scored a goal and three points . Unfortunately they went on to score the next four points which has to be said included two very soft frees. One of which saw Eoin Gallagher pulled down as he entered the last third of the pitch to no whistle and a quick break by the home team stopped by a fine block from Ryan Convey only to end with a very soft free awarded by Eamom McAndrew to the home team.

Our only score in the second half came from an injury time score from substitute James Sweeney. Despite from last minute pressure on the Louisburgh goal all came to nothing as the referee gave another soft free out.

A second half performance that has left a lot for management to consider in the coming weeks has left our season tinkering on the edge. There is still plenty to play for in this division but there cannot be any more second half perfomances like this.

Swinford: Ryan Convey, Jason Carney, Mark Forkan, Fergal Harte, Liam Moran, Paul McDonagh, Kevin Doyle, Eoin Gallagher, Joe Kelly, Tom Horkan, John Carney, Johnny Burke, James Devaney, Michael Walsh, Jack McDonnell. Subs: James Sweeney, Kevin McShea

Scorers: James Devaney 2-0. Jack McDonnell 0-3, Liam Moran 0-2, Johnny Burke, James Sweeney 0-1
