  • Junior Championship Round 1 Louisburgh v Swinford

Saturday 6th June brings the start of the 2015 Junior Championship. After winning the 2014 Junior B Championship we have now progressed to the A competition and we are drawn in a very tough group.

Our travels begin with a visit to Louisbugh at 6-30pm Saturday to be followed by a trip to Killala on Saturday 13th June.  Our final group game is a home fixture against Kilfian, which is fixed for Saturday 4th July.

With a number of players having played for the Intermediate team a few weeks ago there is plenty of openings for someone to come in and make a name for themselves.

Hopefully the weather picks up and we will have a grand evening in West Mayo. If possible come along and support the team.

The championship starts on Thursday 11th June but we have a bye that week.

    Our fixtures are as follows:

    25th June 19-00 Cill Chomain v Swinford

    2nd July 19-00 Swinford v Claremorris

Any changes to this schedule will be posted closer to the date.

  • Centenary Cup: Swinford v Charlestown

Last Sunday saw Swinford make their delayed start to the 2015 Centenary Cup. A cold wet afternoon greeted both teams at Robert McCallion Memorial Park as Charlestown brought a strong team to town.

The visitors got the first point of the game before a james Devaney shot sneaked over the line to give Swinford an early lead, which was followed up by a point for Barry Brennan. Charlestown scored four of the following six points to have us leading by one point approachinghalf time. Liam Moran took his opportunities and scored the two Swinford points.

Then both teams exchanged goals with the visitors first before a high Ball into Barry Brennan was knocked down and finished into the net by Jack McDonnell.

Charlestown then equalised to leave the half time score Swinford 2-3 Charlestown 1-6.

Swinford started the second half well with two early points from James Devaney and Stephen Henry. Charlestown then came back with the next two points to level the game. The equalising point coming from a clear foul on John Carney was that missed by the referree.

Tom Horkan restored our lead before Charlestown took control in the last 15 minutes and rattled off 1-4 without reply to finish the game Swinford 2-6 Charlestown 2-12.

A good perfprmance by swinford for 2/3rds of the game but completeley ran out of steam in the last third.

Swinford: Ryan Convey, Jason carney, Mark Forkan, John Gerard Kelly, Aiden McLoughlin, Dermot Keane, Kevin Doyle, Joe Kelly, Stephen Henry, KevinMcDonagh, Liam Moran, Tom Horkan, James Devaney, Barry Brennan, Jack McDonnell. Subs used: John Carney, Paul McNicholas.
