  • Swinford GAA Underage Report

    Its been a great days for our underage teams.

    Our Under 13 started the league last Monday with a one point defeat away to Charlestown on a score of 3-8 to 2-10 but they have bounced back with two very good home wins against Hollymount-Carramore and Ballina Stephenites B. Last thursday they beat Hollymount-Carramore by 5-15 to 2-8 and tonight they dispatched Ballina Stephenites B by 9-15 to 1-4. Next up is an away trip to Castlebar Mitchels B on Monday next.

    Our Under 15 team got off to a great start in the league easily dispatching Breaffy on Sunday by 3-17 to 4-4. Next up for them is an away trip next Sunday to Davitts.

    Our Under 16 team are out tomorrow (Tuesday) night away to Aghamore in the East Mayo Championship and our Minors play the East Mayo Final on Friday against Charlestown with the game been played in Ballyhaunis.

    50/50 Draw

    This weeks draw for Swinford GAA 50/50 draw was held in Gateway Hotel on 25th August and  Elaine Henry Dempsey of Cloonfinaun, Swinford won €814. Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. Next draw in Moores on 2nd September. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.

    Minor B Championship
    Our minors had a very narrow win over Kiltimagh on Friday 21st. We went into the closing stages behind by 2 but two goals including a penalty gave us the win and we are through to the next stage of the Championship.

    Junior Championship
    The team will have to do it all again as they drew with Ballycroy in Crossmolina on Saturday evening 22nd in a relegation playoff. Ballycroy 0-9 Swinford 1-6. The replay is fixed again for Crossmolina on Sat 5th at 5pm.

    M D Roofing Under 21 Championship
    We were well beaten in the opening game of the Championship away to the Neale by 1-15 to 0-8 on Sunday 23rd. Next up is a home game against Erris St. Patricks on Monday 31st.

    Development Work
    Work has commenced on the Robert McCallion Memorial Pitch to keep it in tip top shape for the remainder of the season. This work could not be carried out without the support of the entire community through the 50/50 draw and other fundraising. Thanks to everybody. Thanks also to the Amenity Park for facilitating us during this work.

    County Board Development Draw

    All Ireland Club Football Sevens:

    We have been invited to take  part in the 2015 All Ireland Club Football sevens hosted by St. Judes GAA Club, Templeogue in September. More details will follow at a later date.


    Under 14 Championship
    Swinford have got off to a mixed start in this years Championship with a fine home win against Isleadeady last week followed by a defeat on the road to Cill Chomain. We have two games coming up in the next ten days away to Hollymount-Carramore and home to Claremorris.

    Intermediate Championship Hollymount v Swinford
    We were defeated by 2 point in Hollymount on Saturday evening and we depart the Intermediate Championship on score difference of 1 point to Burrishoole.  Unfortunately I was unable to attend so there is no report this week.
