    Egan Jewellers Intermediate Championship

Round 1 of the Championship is this Sunday 15th May 2pm at Gilmartin Park, Kiltimagh. We have played Kiltimagh earlier this year in the Michael Walsh Intermediate League final and our hosts beat us that day by 0-10 to 0-6.

We have started off our Division 1C league with two wins and one loss while Kiltimagh have lost all three opening games in Division 1B.

It should be a tight game and all support will be needed in Kiltimagh.

The other two teams in our group Tourmakeady and Bohola Moy Davitts meet on Saturday evening in Foxford.

  • Swinford v Cill Chomain

    Swinford v Cill Chomain

    Ch3c0vwWUAEq-sD Ch3c3OHW0AAIW2o

On a wet and windy Saturday evening at Robert McCallion Memorial Park we played our third league game with hopes of maintaining our 100% start to the season, especially going into the first round of the Intermediate Championship next week.

Unfortunately on a very poor performance we are left to ponder the many errors and mistakes and how to get it all right in eight days.

In a first half that we completely dominated but only went in at the break with a three point lead, 0-4 to 0-1. We used the ball very well and our defence was on top but our scoring boots were somewhere else. We put four wides on the statistic board before Cill Chomain opened the scoring after 8 minutes. It took another five minutes for Jack McDonnell to get our opening score but this was followed by a few more wides.

After 24 minutes it was only a point apiece before John Carney kicked a lovely point from about 40 out. This was soon followed by a fisted point from Mark Forkan after the ball came back off the upright from a James Devaney shot. Liam Moran quickly scored our fourth point and we led by three but before the break we had nother two wides.

At this stage we were well on top, though having played with the wind, but not reflected on the scoreboard.

The second half was a different story and nothing went to plan, far  too many misplaced passes and taking far too long to make decisions and move the ball up the field. Yet we were still in the game as Cill Chomain decided to leave their scoring boots in the dressing room. The visitors kicked two wides at the start of the half before getting the first score atfer 6 minutes. They then decided to kick a further four wides before they leveled the game after 14 minutes.

At this stage we could not even get the ball out of our own half and we completely under the cosh. Cill Chomain took the lead before we quickly equalised through a point from Mark Forkan. We again swapped points with Cill Chomain taking the lead before Mark Forkan popped up again to level.

So with ten minutes left we were both on six points but then the visitors found their scoring boots and kicked over three unanswered points to win by 0-6 to 0-9.

A lot has to be done before next weekends Championship fixture. There would appear to be a lack of belief in the team as we struggled to move the ball to our forwards and keep our structure on the field. There is no doubt the players have the ability to strike back and there will be no better place to do it next weekend.

Swinford: Sean Kavanagh, Steven McNicholas, Fergal Harte, Alan McLoughlin, Jason Carney, Sean Brady, James Lavin, Eoin Gallagher, Mark Forkan, Johnny Burke, Liam Moran, John Carney, James Devaney, Jack McDonnell, Kevin McDonagh. Subs Ryan Convey, Darragh McIntyre, John Gerard Kelly

Scorers: Mark Forkan 0-3, Jack McDonnell, John Carney, Liam Moran 0-1 each
