Under 10 Blitz in Knockmore Saturday 12th September

    2015-09-12 14.32.08

Knockmore invited a team of our u10s to play in their annual blitz last Saturday. This competition involves 24 clubs from around the county and is a credit to Knockmore GAA.

The Swinford team played very well and ended up winning their section.  They are just one team from our panel of 35 u10s and the entire u10 panel has shown great application and attitude this year. They improve with every game and we can look forward to seeing them wearing the Black & Red for the next few decades!

A special word of thanks must go out to the coaches on the day – James McNicholas, Ray Gilmore, Thomas Tuffy & Michael Devaney – and to all the underage coaches that are doing such great work for the future of the club, from u6 upwards.

  • Junior Championship Playoff Replay Swinford v Ballycroy

These two teams played out a draw three weeks ago in Crossmolina and they knocked heads again this evening in Bonniconlon.

Ballycroy got off to a flyer with a point in the first minute and after wides for both teams extended their lead after seven minutes.

Gerry Callaghan got us off the mark with a fine point from out on the right side but Ballycroy soon regained their two point lead.

After about twenty minutes we began to dominate the game and a free from Kevin McDonagh and points from play from Gerry Callaghan and Kevin McDonagh gave us the lead before Darren Campbell found the back of the net and we were suddenly four clear. Ballycroy got one back before two more points from Gerry Callaghan put us five ahead as we heading to the break. With the last kick of the half Ballycroy got a point to leave the score

    Swinford 1-6 Ballycroy 0-5

More of the same was needed in the second half but Ballycroy got a hold in the middle of the park and put huge pressure on us in the opening ten minutes which was reflected on the score. They rattled off 1-3 before we could get a score of our own and turned the score completely around.

Eleven minutes passed before a Darren Campbell free got us going in the half and put the minimum between us. The teams exchanged points with another free from Darren Campbell beofre we had a great opportunity for a goal but was unfortunately missed.

After 25minutes Ballycroy put the game beyond reach with their second goal which was soon followed by another point. There was now five between the teams as we entered the last five minutes.

We began to rush our kicks and missed a free before we won a penalty that was successfully scored by Kevin McDonagh but that was to be the last kick of the game and the referree blew the final whistle.

    Ft Swinford 2-8 Ballycroy 2-10

There is one last opportunity left to maintain our Junior A status with a relegation game against Ballaghaderreen B to come. The team are definitely well capable of winning that one, just need to work on their fitness and make better use of the ball when in hand.
