Following the Intermediate teams one point win at home to Louisburgh the Junior team took to Robert McCallion Memorial Park for their Division 1E game against Westport.

First score came from the boot of Kevin McDonagh with an early free but then Westport scored 1-2 to take a commanding lead. Kevin McDonagh put over his second to leave the goal seperating the teams after ten minutes. Both teams swapped three points each over the next ten minutes with our scores from two Ryan Convey frees and a point from Paul McDonagh.

Swinford went down to 14 men with about five minutes left in the half. This galvinised the team and they scored the next two points from Kevin McDonagh and Ryan Convey. Westport got the last score of the half to leave it 0-7 to 1-6.

Westport drew first blood in the second half to stretch their lead but then after a number of changes Swinford found their rhythm and points from Kevin McDonagh, Michael Prendergast, Kevin McDonagh and Jason McLoughlin put them ahead by one point.

Westport drew level and with time running out a converted free from Kevin McDonagh put Swinford ahead once more. As the game went into injury time Westport converted their own free to level the game for the fourth time. Westport then regained the lead and though Swinford had one last attack they were not able to convert.

Final score Swinford 0-12 Westport 1-10

It was a very good performance with 14 men for 35 minutes but no reward for the home team. Both teams face each other again in a few weeks in the Junior B Championship.
