Minor League Div 2 Kiltimagh v Swinford

The game started in typical April weather but the second half brought torrential downpours and a very good game of football in difficult condiitons. We were very unlucky not to come away with the two points but for a very soft penalty for the home side with three minutes of normal time left.

The first score of the game was a goal for the home side nevertheless we recovered well and two points from full forward Ryan Convey steadied the team.

Kiltimagh then regrouped and scored two points to bring their lead back to that early goal.

We then scored two very fine points, first one a fine individual point from James Devaney and the second a great point from out on the right by Joshua Smith. Kiltimagh then scored a free and after fifteen minutes they were leading by two points.

The next three scores came from Kiltimagh before a free from Johnny Burke and then a goal from Ryan Convey had the teams level after twenty five minutes. Unfortunately two goals from Kiltimagh seperated by a free from Johnny Burke left the teams at half time Kiltimagh 3-5 Swinford 1-6.

Shane Julian came on at the break and was immediately causing problems for the Kiltimagh defence. James Devaney soon had the ball in theback of the net, thanks to a great pass from Shane Julian and this was followed by a free from Johnny Burke and a point from James Devaney had the teams level.

A goal from James Devaney put us three ahead before Kiltimagh got their first scores of the second half after fifteen minutes with two points from play. A Johnny Burke free was soon followed by a Kiltimagh goal which put the home team up by one.

After twenty four minutes Shane Julian got our last score of the game with a well taken goal. The last five minutes brought a goal from the penalty spot and three points for Kiltimagh and a second yellow card for Johnny Burke. As I am prohibited by my position in the GAA from speaking badly about the standard of refereeing in the game I will leave it at that.
