Swinford GAA kicked off the year with an action packed Easter bank holiday.First off, our brave Juniors, travelled to battle with Moygownah’s first team. At the helm were Alan ‘Chucky’ Kennedy and Tommy ‘Dyna’ Feeney. They assembled an impressive line-up of former, current and future greats. Although they lost by a narrow margin, it was fantastic to have such a fine team together and long may it continue. Best of an impressive squad were Mick Walsh, Steve Hollaran and J.G. Kelly.
The minors were out on Sunday morning against the ‘auld enemy’ Charlestown. Led by the impressive Darragh McIntyre and the footballing half of ‘Everyday Solution’, Steve McDonnell and Aaron Kinsella, they put the Sarsfields to the sword. This is a minor team that is maturing nicely under their management team of Michael Smyth, Michael Campbell, Eamon Molly and Noel Barry. At the time of going to press they have recorded 3 wins out of 3.
The seniors finished off the football for the weekend with a trip to Lahardane, who are mounting a huge effort at senior level this year with the addition of Crossmolina stalwart Gabriel Walsh to their squad. However, Swinford, with Aiden Campbell back on the field of play after a long layoff with injury, put in a great display. Playing against a strong wind, they were only 2 points down at half time. They dominated the second half, but were stung with a last minute goal and ended up sharing the points. The senior squad and management are putting in huge effort this year and hopefully they can build on this good performance.
