Senior League Division 1C Belmullet v Swinford

It was a long road to Belmullet and a longer one back as we finished on the wrong side of a tight game. A game of two halves, saw two black cards for the home team and a home management duo that could do with lessons in respect for the opposition, supporters and the referee. .

A slow start to the game saw us 1-1 down after six minutes but we should have been level a few minutes later. Our first score was a great long range point from Fergal Harte and then Michael Walsh was denied a goal by a goal-line clearance.

The home team extended their lead with a pointed free and added another point before the half finished leaving them five clear.

The second half began with another pointed free by the home team before Jack McDonnell got our second score from a free. Belmullet then extended their lead to six points before we took control of the game and rattled off the next four points much to the anger of the home team and sideline. As that period saw two black cards for two substitutes and a member of their management team sent to watch the remainder of the game from the stands.

As Belmullet tried to play the ball out Darren Campbell put the ball carrier under great pressure and from a quick free centre back Conor Horan put over a fine kick. Stephen Henry then added another point before Joe Kelly won a great ball in the middle of the park and played the ball to Eoin Gallagher who slotted the ball over the bar. There was now a goal between the teams and Jack McDonnell added his second free of the game.

Belmullet got their last point of the game before Kevin McShea scored two frees to leave the minimum between the teams with injury time approaching. Earlier in the half there was a lengthy stoppage to the game to deal with an injury to a Belmullet player but the referee must not have not stopped his stopwatch as he only added three minutes to what was a six/seven minute stoppage. The game finished with a missed opportunity to level the game and the long road home beckoned.

It was a game that we grew into and should have come home with a share of the points but we now look forward to another trip west next weekend to Louisburgh.

Senior League Div2E Ballina v Swinford

Not much too report from tonights game in James Stephens Park. In cold and miserable conditions we lost on a score of 3-14 to 1-7.

The highlights of a first half was a finely taken goal after ten minutes by Pearse Walsh after a high ball in from Aiden McLoughlin and a great penalty save by Sean Kavanagh. Against a strong wind the half time score was Ballina 1-9 Swinford 1-2.

With their lead Ballina were able to sit back in the second half and take us on the counter attack with some good running from deep. The game petered out to a finish.

Under 16 League
The team suffered their first defeat of the league away to Cill Chomain on Tuesday 28th on a score of 4-11 to 2-8. They remain top of their division with one league game left.

Under 14 League

The team gave a very good display in their league game against Davitts last Thursday and were very unlucky to lose by 2 points. Its only matter of time before they click into full gear and get a few wins under their belts. Well done lads, it was a very good game to watch and the same again next week and ye will all be enoying success.

Minor League
We lost by four points in what was a very entertaining game in Gilmartin Park, Kiltimagh on Friday night. In very wet condiitons a late penalty and two points gave Kiltimagh the win by 5-10 to 4-9.

Senior Div 1E
In a match that management will learn very little from as Lacken came to Robert McCallion Memorial Park on Saturday evening and played very little football. A very easy victory for Swinford by 3-9 to 0-2. Swinford scorers: Michael Walsh 1-1, James Lavin 0-3, Paul McDonagh 0-3, Caoimghin McLoughlin 1-0, Pearse Rowley 1-0, Kevin McDonagh 0-1, Pearse Walsh 0-1.

Senior Div 1C
We had no game last weekend in division 1C and the Club send their condolences to the family and friends of the late Peter Cosgrove and all involved with the Neale GAA Club.
