  • Senior League Division 1C Castlebar Mitchells v Swinford

Senior League Division 1C Castlebar Mitchells v Swinford

    Swinford_GAA_Crest

Goint into the game both teams required points to consolidate their position in Division 1C. This was the home teams last game while Swinford have a trip to Louisburgh next weekend.

Swinford got off to a great start and were five points up after twelve minutes with scores from Kevin McDonagh, Liam Moran, JP Broderick and a couple more from Liam Moran. It was the 16th minute before Mitchells got on the scoreboard and they rattled off four more points to be level going in at the break. Swinford were to regret their large number of wides and should have been well in front at this point.

Soon after the break Kevin McDonagh put Swinford back in front but Mitchels got the next three points to lead by two after ten minutes. Points from Liam Moran and Kevin McDonagh leveled the game for the third time midway through the half.

That was the end of the scoring for Swinford as Mitchels scored three points without reply to win by 0-11 to 0-8.

It was very disappointing to see such a small squad of players present for such an important fixture.  The effects of a long drawn out season are showing on the team. The GAA are going to have to look at the effects the county championship is having on the small clubs. Weeks and weeks go by without any games and then when the weather has turned and players have college and exams on their minds there is a glut of games. At the height of the summer the team went eight weeks without a league game. If we are to keep our players in the game this has to change.

Swinford: Gavin Moore, Aidan McLoughlin, Sean Brady, Mark McNicholas, Mark Forkan, Paul McDonagh, Kevin Barry, Johnny Burke, Michael Walsh, Kevin Doyle, Kevin McShea, Kevin McDonagh, Liam Moran, JP Broderick, Darren Campbell. Subs James Lavin

    Scorers: Liam  Moran 0-4 (1f) Kevin McDonagh 0-3 (f), JP Broderick 0-1
